The smallest of the Channel Islands, Jersey lies in the English Channel between Great Britain and France. It is a British Crown dependency, with its own government and parliament, and is not part of the EU. Jersey's capital city is St Helier, and is the main port for the Channel Islands, although there are also passenger ferries from the UK. Jersey has around 2.8 million residents, the majority of whom live on the island of Jersey, but the smaller islands of Alderney, Guernsey and Sark do have residents. The biggest town is St. Helier, which is also the island's chief port.
